Who may qualify
The Hanover alumni discount is for college and university graduates. It is not limited to one school. Whether you went to a large state university, a small private college or a school out of state, your degree is what counts. You do not need to belong to an alumni association.
A few points worth knowing before you call:
- The discount is offered by the insurance carrier. It is not a school-sponsored insurance program.
- Discounts may vary by carrier and eligibility.
- If you have other memberships, such as a professional association or union, mention them too. A different group discount may fit you better.
What applies in each state
Group discounts differ by state. Here is where things stand for alumni in the states where we most often help clients.
New Hampshire
College and university alumni may qualify for a 10% discount on Hanover home and auto policies. If you also belong to a professional association, union or other group, mention it. Hanover recognizes several other groups in New Hampshire, and we can check which discount fits you best.
Maine
College and university alumni may qualify for a 10% discount on Hanover home and auto policies. Maine also has group discounts for educators, realtors and several other groups, and alumni and educator group discounts may be combined (we confirm eligibility when we quote), so tell us about every membership you hold.
Hanover also offers a 5% group discount on Maine home and auto policies for nurses and medical professionals, police, firefighters and EMS, and active duty, National Guard and reserve members. These group discounts may be combined with the alumni discount; we confirm eligibility when we quote.
Massachusetts
Hanover does not currently offer an alumni group discount in Massachusetts. We still shop your home and auto coverage across our carriers and look for every discount you are eligible for.
Connecticut
There is no Hanover alumni discount in Connecticut. AAA members, however, may qualify for a 5% discount on Hanover auto policies, on new policies and at renewal. Ask us about it when you call our Stratford office.
A discount is one input, not the whole decision
We have been an independent agency since 2005, and we work with 40+ carriers. That matters here because a 10% discount from one carrier does not automatically make that carrier the right fit. Another company may offer broader coverage for your home, a better deductible structure, or other discounts that outweigh the alumni savings.
So when you ask about the alumni discount, we do two things. We check whether you qualify with Hanover, and we compare that option against what our other carriers can offer for the same coverage. You get a side-by-side view and an honest recommendation. We charge no agency or broker fees on personal lines.

Saint Anselm College alumni and affiliates
If you graduated from Saint Anselm College, you may qualify for the Hanover alumni discount in New Hampshire like any other college graduate. Saint Anselm College alumni and affiliates may also qualify for a Safety Insurance discount; ask us.

Do I need to belong to my school’s alumni association?
No. The Hanover alumni discount is for college and university graduates, so you do not need to be a member of an alumni association. Tell us where you went to school when you call. Discounts may vary by carrier and eligibility.
Is Portsmouth Atlantic Insurance partnered with my college?
No. We are an independent insurance agency and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official insurance partner of any college, university, or alumni association. The alumni discount we can offer comes from the insurance carrier, not from a school program.
Which states does the alumni discount apply in?
On Hanover home and auto policies, college and university alumni may qualify for a 10% discount in New Hampshire and Maine. Hanover does not currently offer an alumni group discount in Massachusetts or Connecticut, but we can still compare options for you there across our carriers.
Does the discount apply to both home and auto?

I went to Saint Anselm College. Is there anything extra for me?
Possibly. As a college graduate you may qualify for the Hanover alumni discount in New Hampshire, and Saint Anselm College alumni and affiliates may also qualify for a Safety Insurance discount. Ask us.
Should I just pick the carrier with the alumni discount?
Not necessarily. A discount is one piece of the price. Coverage, deductibles, your home, your driving record and other discounts all matter, which is why we compare the alumni discount against what our other carriers offer before recommending a policy.
