Many Maine call and volunteer firefighters and rescue members respond to calls in their personal vehicles. Tell us if you do, and whether you have emergency lights, so your auto policy reflects how you actually drive. Ask your department how its coverage applies too.
Take-home and department vehicles
A cruiser or department truck is usually insured by the town, county or state, not by your personal auto policy. Your own policy still matters for the cars you own and for liability when you’re off duty.
Gear and firearms at home
Personal gear, tools and firearms kept at home may have limits under a standard homeowners policy. If you own equipment of significant value, ask us whether you need to schedule it. Department-issued equipment is generally the department’s responsibility.
Detail work and side jobs
