Why we publish
Portsmouth Atlantic Insurance is a family-owned independent insurance agency founded in 2005, with offices in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Stratford, Connecticut. We publish guides and videos so clients can understand their coverage before they talk to us. This policy explains how that content is made and checked. Learn more about our agency and our team.
Who writes our content
Articles are drafted by members of our team and by writers working with us, sometimes with help from writing tools. Every draft is edited by a person at the agency before it can be published.
Licensed review
Coverage is explained only by licensed agents. Any page, video or episode that explains what a policy does or doesn’t cover is reviewed by a licensed insurance agent (currently Jon Merwin, Founder and CEO) before it goes live. The reviewer’s name and the review date appear at the top of the page.
Team members who aren’t licensed, including our partner relationships staff, can introduce you to an agent and explain next steps, but they don’t give coverage guidance.
Sources we use
We rely on primary sources: state insurance departments (for example the New Hampshire Insurance Department and the Connecticut Insurance Department), FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program, carrier policy forms and filings, carrier financial-strength ratings published by rating agencies, and state statutes. We link to sources where we can. See also how we choose carriers.
We don’t publish premiums or price promises, because rates depend on the property, the driver and the carrier.
How often we update
We review high-traffic coverage pages at least every 12 months, and sooner when a law, regulation, program (such as NFIP) or carrier appetite changes. Each page shows its published date, its last updated date and its last reviewed date.
Corrections
If you spot an error, email insure@portsmouthatlanticins.com or call (603) 431-4020. A licensed agent reviews reported errors, we fix confirmed mistakes promptly, and we note significant corrections on the page. You can also reach us through our contact page.
Videos and podcasts
The same rules apply: coverage segments are delivered or reviewed by a licensed agent, and the description notes who reviewed it.
Not advice
Our content is general information, not legal, tax or insurance advice, and it doesn’t change any policy. Coverage is determined by your policy’s terms, conditions and exclusions and by the carrier. Talk to a licensed agent about your situation.
