Hollis has kept much of its farm-town character, with working orchards, stone walls, a historic village center and house lots measured in acres. That rural feel is why people move here, and it is also what drives Hollis homeowners insurance: private wells, distance from hydrants, barns and outbuildings, and older houses alongside newer colonials.
Portsmouth Atlantic Insurance is a family-owned independent agency founded in 2005 and licensed in 10 states. We compare home coverage from 40+ carriers, charge no agency fees, and work from our Portsmouth, NH office.
What Hollis homeowners should know
Rural fire protection
Much of Hollis is not served by town hydrants. Carriers look at distance to the fire station and any nearby water source, so tell us about cisterns, dry hydrants or ponds near your home. Monitored smoke alarms can also help.
Barns, farm stands and hobby farms
Barns and sheds fall under other-structures coverage, usually a percentage of the dwelling limit. Selling produce, boarding animals or running a farm stand can be a business activity that a homeowners policy does not cover. Tell us how the property is used so we can find the right fit.
Historic village houses
Older homes around the village center can include original beams, plaster and wide-board floors, which cost more to restore. We set the dwelling limit from a replacement-cost estimate. For larger homes, Openly and National General write up to about $5 million. Cincinnati and Chubb both write homes at any dwelling limit, so we quote both.
Wells, ponds and the Nissitissit River
Most Hollis homes rely on private wells, and a worn-out pump generally is not covered without an endorsement. Homes near Silver Lake, the Nissitissit River or other low ground should look at flood insurance; check your address on the FEMA Flood Map Service Center.
Nearby towns
We also insure homes in Amherst, Bedford and Windham. Add a personal umbrella for more liability protection.

Frequently asked questions
My Hollis home has no hydrant nearby. Can I still get coverage?
Yes. Carriers will consider distance to the fire station and nearby water sources, which can affect pricing.
Does my homeowners policy cover my farm stand?
Usually not. Selling produce or boarding animals can be a business activity that needs separate coverage.
Is my barn covered?
Barns fall under other-structures coverage, usually a percentage of the dwelling limit. A large barn may need a higher limit.
Which carriers do you use for Hollis homes?
We compare coverage from 40+ carriers. For larger homes, Openly and National General write up to about $5 million. Cincinnati and Chubb both write homes at any dwelling limit, so we quote both.
Do you charge agency fees?
No. We do not charge agency fees on any policy, including home, auto, flood and umbrella.
